The
Arab Music Conference, that took place 1932 at Cairo, was a most
important event in the inter-cultural dialogue of Orient and Occident.
At that time famous musicologists and composers of European and
Arab countries met in a palace that belonged to the Institute of
Oriental Music to discuss the development of music, its reproduction
and perception, and to outline a generally applicable notation.
The course of the conference and its results are the subject of
this lecture.
